Detection of Melanocortin-5 R/MC5R in HEK293 Human Cell Line Transfected with Human Melanocortin-5 R/MC5R and eGFP by Flow Cytometry. HEK293 human embryonic kidney cell line transfected with human Melanocortin-5 R/MC5R and eGFP was stained with and either (A) Mouse Anti-Human Melanocortin-5 R/MC5R Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB8205) or (B) Mouse IgG2AIsotype Control (Catalog # MAB003) followed by Allophycocyanin-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # F0101B).

Background: Melanocortin-5 R/MC5R
Melanocortin 5R (MC5R) is a member of the melanocortin receptor family. The 325 amino acid G-protein-coupled 7-transmembrane glycoprotein is expressed in skeletal muscle, where engagement by a-melanocyte stimulating hormone increases glucose uptake and stimulates a thermogenic response. Expression is also found in sebaceous glands and other skin structures, and on selected hematopoietic cell lines. Human MC5R shares 80-81% amino acid sequence identity with mouse and rat MC5R.
