Background: Glut3

Glut3 belongs to the facilitative glucose transporter protein family that comprises 13 members. It is an integral membrane protein with 12 transmembrane domains. Glut3 is the glucose transporter responsible for maintaining an adequate glucose supply to neurons (1, 2). It is also expressed in placenta and articular chondrocytes (3, 4).
