Detection of Complement Component C1qA in Human Placenta. Complement Component C1qA was detected in immersion fixed paraffin-embedded sections of Human Placenta using Rat Anti-Human Complement Component C1qA Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB4035) at 1 µg/mL for 1 hour at room temperature followed by incubation with the Anti-Rat IgG VisUCyte™ HRP Polymer Antibody (Catalog # VC005). Before incubation with the primary antibody, tissue was subjected to heat-induced epitope retrieval using VisUCyte Antigen Retrieval Reagent-Basic (Catalog # VCTS021). Tissue was stained using DAB (brown) and counterstained with hematoxylin (blue). Specific staining was localized to endothelial cells in cytotrophoblast in chorionic villi. View our protocol for IHC Staining with VisUCyte HRP Polymer Detection Reagents.

Background: Complement Component C1qA

C1qA, one of three subunits of complement component C1q, contains a collagen-like domain and a globular C1q domain. Within the globular domain, human C1qA shares 73% and 77% aa sequence identity with mouse and rat C1qA, respectively. Six disulfide-linked heterodimers of C1qA and C1qB associate with three disulfide-linked homodimers of C1qC to form C1q. Deficiency in C1qA is associated with the development of autoimmunity.
