Basophils

Basophils are a type of granular leukocyte (white blood cell) involved in inflammatory and allergic responses. Basophils contain toxic granules which are used to destroy micro-organisms / pathogens during the process of phagocytosis. Basophils express several adhesion molecules which play a critical role in homing, including LFA-1 (CD11a/CD18), Mac-1 (CD11b/CD18), and CD44.
