Carrier Free

What does CF mean?

CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.

What formulation is right for me?

In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Background: DDB1

DNA damage-binding protein 1 (DDB1) is a component of the UV-damaged DNA binding (UV-DDB) complex which minimally consists of DDB1 and DDB2.  At 1,140 amino acids in length and a predicted molecular weight of 127 kDa, human DDB1 is 99% identical to both its mouse and rat orthologues.  DDB1 is also a component of DCX (DDB1-CUL4-X-box) E3 Ubiquitin Ligase complexes where it serves to associate the Cullin-4 subunit to substrate recognition subunits such as Cereblon (CRBN), and various DCAF (DDB1-CUL4 Associate Factor) proteins.
