Biological Activity
Key information: filipin III is a fluorescent cholesterol stain; polyene antibiotic.Used for: fluorescent cholesterol staining. Binds sterols in fungal membranes. Also inhibits formation of the pathological form of prion protein (PrP-res) from the normal membrane-bound (PrP-sen) form.
Application: confocal microscopy.
Properties and Photophysical Data: excitation and emission maxima (λ) are 405 nm and 420-480 nm, respectively.
