Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a complex, neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by brain atrophy caused by neuronal loss. The main pathological hallmarks of AD, senile plaques, composed of Amyloid beta (A-beta), and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles, comprised of hyperphosphorylated Tau, are thought to be the main causes of neurodegeneration. However, research has shown that a multitude of mechanisms, including neuroinflammation, the production of free radicals, and mitochondrial dysfunction, play a role in the initiation and progression of AD. R&D Systems offers a range of research tools needed for the investigation of the biological processes underlying AD.
