Reproduction
Reproduction is the biological process by which cells and organisms generate additional cells or organisms of the same kind or species. Sexual reproduction is dependent on the fusion of male and female reproductive cells, or gametes. In contrast, single cell parents can produce offspring via asexual reproduction, which is independent of reproductive cell union. The biology of reproduction is dependent on the actions of many sex hormones, as well as local modulators such as cytokines and growth factors. R&D Systems offers products to study a wide range of reproduction related research topics including male functional anatomy, endocrinology, and spermatocytogenesis. Equally, products are available for the study of female functional anatomy, estrous cycle, and ovarian physiology.
The field of reproduction also includes the endocrinology of fertilization, embryogenesis, placental function, and other pregnancy related topics. In addition, we offer a range of preeclampsia-associated products. Preeclampsia is a serious medical condition which affects approximately 5% of pregnant women. Although it is not usually fatal, preeclampsia is characterized by hypertension, proteinuria, and edema.
