Carrier Free

What does CF mean?

CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.

What formulation is right for me?

In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

10329-IF

Background: IFN-alpha 11

Interferons (IFN) are a family of cytokines with potent antiviral, antiproliferative and immunomodulatory properties, classified based on their binding specificity to cell surface receptors (1). There are more than a dozen closely related IFN alpha subtypes found in both the human and mouse genome, each sharing about 80% amino acid (aa) sequence homology (2, 3). The extracellular domain (ECD) of mature mouse IFNA11 shares 81% amino acid sequence identity with rat IFNA11. The closest homolog of IFNA11 identified in human is IFNA5. The type I IFNs bind to the interferon alpha receptor (IFNAR), which consists of two subunits: IFNAR1 (alpha ‑subunit) and IFNAR2 (beta ‑subunit) (4, 5). Individual IFN alpha subtypes are known to display unique efficacies to viral protection, with IFNA11 showing high activity when compared to other subtypes (4). IFNA11 stimulates NK cells resulting in activation and improved effector functions. Treatment with IFNA11 inhibits the FV-replication in acutely infected mice. IFNA11 is not only effective in retroviral infections but also is effective in herpes virus infections. IFNA11 has a potential as an efficient drug for treatment of many different viral diseases (6).
