Carrier Free
CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.
In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Background: mGluR4
Metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) are members of the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, modulating glutamate neurotransmission in the central and peripheral nervous systems through GTP-binding proteins (1). Structurally, members of this family are characterized by a large N-terminal extracellular domain (ECD), seven transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic C-terminal domain that is variable in length. Two ECDs dimerize together and large conformational changes are induced when agonists bind to one or both domains (2). The C-terminal region is subject to alternative splicing, regulation by phosphorylation and interacts directly with a G-protein to modulate protein-protein interactions (2, 3). The receptors are subdivided into three groups (I–III) based on sequence homology, signal transduction and pharmacological properties (1, 2). The Group III receptors include mGLuRs 4, 6, 7 and 8 (2). mGLuR4 has been shown to be expressed postsynaptically in certain areas such as the hippocampus and retina (4). Mature human mGluR4 is 880 amino acids in length. In the ECD region comprising amino acids (aa) 33-587, human mGluR4 shares 97% aa sequence identity with mouse and rat mGluR4.
