Carrier Free

What does CF mean?

CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.

What formulation is right for me?

In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Background: USP15

Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase 15 (USP15) is a specialized cysteine protease with a predicted molecular weight of 112 kDa.  USP15 is a member of the peptidase C19 family and the human protein shares 98% amino acid sequence identity with its mouse ortholog.  USP15 is a regulator of the TGF beta signaling pathway, where it may promote signaling strength by deubiquitination of SMAD proteins and/or the TGF beta R1.  Other reported targets of USP15 include histone H2B, NF kappa BI alpha, MDM2 and human papillomavirus type 16 E6 protein.
