This DuoSet IC ELISA contains the basic components required for the development of sandwich ELISAs to measure total Bax-alpha in cell lysates. An immobilized capture antibody specific for Bax-alpha binds both phosphorylated and unphosphorylated Bax-alpha. After washing away unbound material, a biotinylated detection antibody is used to detect both phosphorylated and unphosphorylated protein, utilizing a standard Streptavidin-HRP format.

Background: Bax-alpha

B cell leukemia/lymphoma-2 associated X protein (Bax) is a pro-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family of proteins found in many cell types. Bax is a cytosolic protein that translocates to the mitochondria and participates in Cytochrome c release in response to apoptotic stimuli. Aberrant expression of Bcl-2 family members can inappropriately promote or prevent apoptosis. Increased expression of Bax is associated with the apoptotic loss of neurons in Parkinson's disease.

Long Name:
Bcl Associated X Protein alpha
Entrez Gene IDs:
581 (Human); 12028 (Mouse); 24887 (Rat)
Alternate Names:
Baxalpha; Bax-alpha
