Scientific Data
Detection of KA1/GRIK4 in Human Hippocampus. KA1/GRIK4 was detected in immersion fixed paraffin-embedded sections of Human Hippocampus using Mouse Anti-Human KA1/GRIK4 Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB11326) at 5 µg/mL for 1 hour at room temperature followed by incubation with the Anti-Mouse IgG VisUCyte™ HRP Polymer Antibody (Catalog # VC001). Before incubation with the primary antibody, tissue was subjected to heat-induced epitope retrieval using VisUCyte Antigen Retrieval Reagent-Basic (Catalog # VCTS021). Tissue was stained using DAB (brown) and counterstained with hematoxylin (blue). Specific staining was localized to cytoplasm in neuronal cells. Background: KA1/GRIK4
GRIK4 (Glutamate receptor, ionotropic kainate 4) is a receptor for glutamate and is one of the 5 types of kainate receptor subunits. Glutamate acts as an excitatory neurotransmitter at many synapses in the CNS are key mediators of brain communication. Kainate receptors are relevant targets for neuroprotection of both neurons and glia in acute and chronic neurodegerative diseases. They are also involved in epilepsy, pain and psychiatric disorders. Variations in GRIK4 have been associated with both increased and decreased risk of bipolar disorder. Single-nucleotide polymorphism's in GRIK 4 are also observed in Schizophrenia.
