Cultrex Rat Collagen I, Lower Viscosity Summary

Cultrex Rat Collagen I, Low Viscosity is a purified stromal extracellular matrix protein that is formulated as an easy to work with hydrogel for coating tissue culture vessels. It may also be used to supplement customized coatings, hydrogels, or medium formulations for cell culture.

Key Benefits

• Qualified for general cell culture applications
• Lower in viscosity for easier handling
• May be used as a hydrogel or thin coating for tissue culture vessels
• Material provided at a standard concentration of ~3 mg/mL

Why Use Cultrex Rat Collagen I, Lower Viscosity?

Cultrex Rat Collagen I, Lower Viscosity is purified from rat tail tendons and is provided at a standard concentration that is lower in viscosity, making it easier to work with. Collagen I is the major structural component of extracellular matrices (ECM) found in connective tissue and internal organs, but is most prevalent in the dermis, tendons, and bone. It is a 300 kDa molecule composed of two alpha1(I) chains and one alpha2(I) chain that spontaneously forms a triple helix scaffold at a neutral pH and 37°C. This phenomenon can be exploited to promote cell attachment, growth, differentiation, migration, and tissue morphogenesis during development. To provide the most standardized Collagen I, a special process is employed to provide material at a standard concentration of approximately 3 mg/mL.

FAQs

  1. What is the difference between the standard Cultrex Rat Collagen I and the Cultrex 3-D Rat Collagen I?

    • Cultrex 3-D Rat Collagen I undergoes the same basic purification and efficacy tests as the standard collagen. However, it undergoes additional 3-D culture validation; it has been tested extensively for the ability to promote growth and differentiation of cell types, visualized by morphology in three dimensions in vitro.

  2. What are the differences between Cultrex Rat Collagen I and Cultrex Rat Collagen I, Low Viscosity?

    • Cultrex Rat Collagen I is provided at 5 mg/mL and is not pepsin treated, so it has intact telopeptides and is highly viscous. Cultrex Rat Collagen I, Low Viscosity is provided at 3 mg/mL, and it is easier to pipet. Both are provided in acetic acid and require pH neutralization prior to use. Please consult the provided product data sheets for pH neutralization instructions.

  3. Is Cultrex Rat Collagen I atelocollagen or telocollagen?

    • Cultrex Rat Collagen I is telocollagen.
