New Slit and ROBO Recombinant Proteins

Slits and ROBO receptors are perhaps best known for roles in axon guidance, but they have also been implicated in morphogenesis, tumorigenesis, cell/cell junction regulation, and migration.

Slit proteins contain four domains of leucine-rich repeats, seven to nine EGF-like sequences, and a laminin-G domain. In mammals, there are three slit genes, all of which are expressed in the nervous system and in other organs. Slit2 and Slit3 can be cleaved to yield a short C-terminal fragment that signals via PlexinA1 receptor, and a long N-terminal fragment that signals via ROBO receptors. R&D Systems offers the different forms.

The archetypal ROBO1-4 receptors possess five Ig-like domains, three fibronectin type III motifs, a transmembrane spanning region and four c-terminal domains. ROBO receptors can be alternatively spliced to generate various isoforms.
